It was another successful Western Canadian Brewers Cup,
with a new champion. The semi-finals consisted of four
great hockey clubs which they had the final honor to
compete for the highly coveted Western Canadian Brewers
Cup. On one side we had the Regina BullDogs vs the
Nipigon Elks, with the BullDogs going up earlier
in the game. The Nipigon Elks finally
answered back with two straight goals to go up on the
BullDogs. From there on each team battled until Nipigon
finally took the lead in the late stages of the game to
advance to the Brewers Cup Final with a 5 - 3 victory. The second feature of the day
was the Lum/Bet Lumber Jacks vs the Odessa Eagles. These two
teams squared off against each other in a all out shoot
out with each team taking the lead through out the game.
Finally ending the game in a tie forcing it to
overtime. The overtime was just as intense as the game
was in regular time. With Odessa finally winning
the game in the second overtime in a shoot out to
advance to the Brewers Cup since 2008. The final was a
classic Brewers Cup final with each team providing the
kind of excitement that champions are made of, but only one can be
crowned the champion and that was Odessa Eagles
edging the Nipigon Elks to capture their
second Brewers Cup title with a score
of 6 to 4. The Odessa Eagles Scott Leier was named the MVP of the
Tournament.
